PestCheck is operated by Aidan Gonzalez, doing business as PestCheck and as Outfield Web Services, in Chickasha, Oklahoma ("we", "us"). This policy covers the PestCheck iPhone app ("the app") and the PestCheck bug-ID tool that pest control companies put on their websites, share links and QR codes ("the website tool"). It explains what we do with your information. We've tried to keep it short and literal rather than vague.
We do not require an account. We do not sell your data. We do not use advertising or analytics trackers. Photos and descriptions you submit are sent to our server and on to our AI provider, Anthropic, to produce an identification. We don't store them.
The app does not collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, or precise location. It does not track you across other apps or websites.
Your photo and description are sent to our server, which forwards them to Anthropic, the provider of the Claude AI model that performs the identification. Anthropic returns a result, our server passes it back to your phone, and the image is discarded. We do not save your photos, and we do not build a profile from them.
Anthropic's handling of data submitted through its API is governed by its own terms and privacy policy. Under those terms Anthropic generally deletes API data within 30 days (longer only for safety or legal reasons) and does not use it to train its models. See anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
The app asks for camera access so you can photograph a pest. To pick an existing photo, the app shares only the photo you choose (newer versions use the iPhone's photo picker and don't ask for library access at all). The app does not browse, scan, or upload anything else from your library. You can revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings.
The app also remembers the state you pick, on your phone only. It is not sent to our server.
When a result indicates professional treatment may be warranted, the app displays a featured pest control company. Tapping "Call now" opens your phone's dialer; tapping the website link opens your browser. We do not transmit your photo, description, or any personal information to those companies. Featured companies are our partners: they pay for that placement, or are listed free as launch partners. Our Oklahoma partner, Gonzalez Pest Control, is owned by the founder's family. The app is free to use either way.
Some pest control companies offer a PestCheck bug-ID tool on their own website or through a PestCheck link or QR code. It works the same way as the app: your photo and description are sent to our server and to Anthropic to produce an identification, and we don't store them. Your IP address is held in memory only for the usage limit described above. For the company's monthly report we record, without your photo, your description or anything that identifies you, that the tool was opened, that a check ran and whether it used a photo, and whether someone tapped "Call" or "Book". We may add the type of pest identified to that count. We do not give the company your photo, description or IP address. If you call or book with them, that is between you and the company, and their own privacy policy applies.
If your company subscribes, we and our payment processor, Stripe, keep your business name, contact name, email, phone number, website and booking link, and your billing details, to run your account, send you the install code and your monthly report, and bill you. Stripe handles card details; we never see your full card number. We use your email only for your account and PestCheck for Pros updates, and we don't sell it. The PestCheck for Pros Terms also apply.
PestCheck is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
We do not operate a user database. Submitted images and descriptions are held only in memory for the duration of the request. IP addresses are held in memory only for the rate limit window described above. Our hosting provider may keep standard technical server logs for a short time for security and troubleshooting. Pros customer records are kept while the subscription is active and afterward as long as tax and accounting rules require.
App and website-tool users have no account, and we don't store their photos or descriptions, so there is no stored profile to access, correct, or delete. Pros customers can ask us to correct or delete their business details (we keep billing records the law requires). If you have a question or a request, contact us below and we will respond.
PestCheck provides AI-generated guidance for informational purposes. It can be wrong. It is not a substitute for inspection or treatment by a licensed pest control professional, and it is not medical or veterinary advice. If you may be dealing with a venomous animal or a health hazard, contact a professional or emergency services.
If we change how the app or the website tool handles information, we will update this page and revise the date above.
